Today my master on contemporanean Philosophy at UAB has begun. This week we are being introduced to a recent discipline called 'Aesthetics of Nature'. However, the aesthetical reflexion on Nature is as old as the philosophy and the discipline itself was founded in the XVIII century but the beggining of Romanticism and the strong influence of Hegel's philosophy throw it away from the University and the culture life. After this catastrophic event and its painful consequences for humankind (would it have been different if the influence of the 'Aufklärung' into our moral education had been stronger?), a theorical movement from Northamerica (USA and Canada)the discpline has been rediscovered recently. The aim of Aesthetics of Nature is try to understand, explain and maybe transform the aesthetical relations among the humans and Nature so it might not be, after all, a clean separation between art and moral.
I could tell you a lot of things about such an interesting subject (and I will do) but to catch your attention and make it much more interesting, I ask all of you to watch Sean Pen's 'Into the wild' and write your impressions here. I have always thought that movies are a quite good starting point for a philosophical discussion so here it is the trailer of this film. I hope you will enjoy it:
